What We Accomplished In 2020 + A Look Ahead At 2021

February 2, 2021

Dear Friends & Supporters,

We hope you are having a great year so far! WRF is off to a fast start in 2021. As you know, due to COVID-19 we made the decision to postpone our 2020 in-person reunion season. We are excited to inform you that we currently have 11 units on the schedule for 2021 representing 700 combat veterans and Gold Star Family members which is the largest in our history!

Our season is currently scheduled to begin in June and wrap up with our last reunion in December. While we continue to closely monitor federal, state, and local guidelines - we remain optimistic for a successful reunion season.

Below you will find a brief overview of our growth in 2020 as well as some key events we have planned for 2021 including this February's Frozen Chosin Hump. Thank you for your continued belief in WRF. It is because of patriotic Americans like you that we are able to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our combat veterans and Gold Star Families.

Thank you for your faith in our mission.

2020 Program Adaptations

WRF adapted to the challenges of 2020 and in July launched our Virtual Reunion and Squad Meal programs. Utilizing our Zoom account, 14 Army and Marine Corps units took advantage of the Virtual Reunion program reconnecting 156 combat veterans and Gold Star Family members. Our Squad Meal program reunited small groups of unit members who lived near one another to get together in a safe environment to share a meal sponsored by WRF. 136 combat veterans and Gold Star Family members representing seven Army and Marine Corps units participated.

Mindfulness

Last summer we launched a partnership with Gift Global and Delaware Changing Lives to deliver Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training via live, distance-learning sessions for our reunion participants. We have completed two pilot sessions of this program with 21 of our combat veteran and Gold Star alumni. Together with Gift Global and Delaware Changing Lives we are working on tailoring this training to best fit the needs of our combat veterans and Gold Star Families.

Giving Back

As part of our partnership with the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University, WRF staff provides a period of instruction to licensed clinicians and healthcare providers. The topics include military culture and the transition difficulties facing our veteran community. We conducted seven of these trainings to over 200 healthcare professionals and look forward to continuing this program in 2021.

2021 Reunion Season

We are thrilled to have eleven reunions on the schedule for 2021 reconnecting 700 combat veterans and Gold Star Families this year! Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines will be reunited with Gold Star Family members at locations in California, Texas, Montana, Alabama, Tennessee, and Indiana. This will be the largest reunion season in our four-year history.

Upcoming Events

Our 2020 Frozen Chosin Hump and Inaugural Hump Day Fundraiser were a hit and will be back for 2021! The Frozen Chosin Hump will take place on February 20th. Our 2nd Annual Hump Day Fundraiser is tentatively scheduled for September.

New Partnership

We are excited to announce our partnership with Carry The Load for 2021! We will be participating in Memorial May events to help restore the true meaning of Memorial Day. Stay tuned for more information and how you can support!
