The Marines and sailors of 1st Reconnaissance Battalion (1st Recon) held their reunion at Camp Rotary near Neihart, Montana.
They were among the first U.S. forces to enter Iraq in 2003, leading the way for elements of the 1st Marine Division. Their remarkable exploits during this time were immortalized in Evan Wright's, 'Generation Kill,' which later inspired the HBO miniseries of the same title.
From the moment they stepped off the plane in Montana, the brotherhood they still share was evident. Over the course of the weekend they reconnected, many of them not having seen each other in 20 years. They threw axes and bags, sat around the fire, chopped firewood, and hiked through the nearby Sluice Boxes State Park. All while picking up where they left off.

"Being able to relax and not be concerned with logistics."
Share a short memory from your reunion.
"My jaw hurt from laughing so much. That is what I remember more than anything. I probably laughed more that weekend than I have in a whole year. That meant a lot to me to just be able to let go and enjoy myself with no real responsibilities."
